应兰州大学萃英学院邀请，俄勒冈州立大学AndrewKarplus教授来我校访问并作学术报告。

题目：History of Structural Biology；The thermodynamics of protein folding

报告人简介：

Dr. AndrewKarplusis Professor and Head of the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics at oregon State University (OSU), where he has taught since 1998. He first got exposed to the wonders of biochemistry as a student at U.C. Davis and went on to complete a Ph.D. in Biochemistry at the University of Washington. After four years of post-doctoral research as an Alexander von Humboldt Fellow in Freiburg, Germany, he took a faculty position at Cornell University where was for ten years. He is elected as AAAS fellow in 2014 and awarded the title of OSU Distinguished Professor in 2015 for his great contributions to science and teaching. He teaches undergraduate and graduate classes and has contributed to over 140 peer-reviewed articles based on his research into enzyme catalysis, protein evolution and structure. His work has been cited more than 15,000 times by other scientists.

报告简介：

There will be two lectures, the first will provide some history of structural biology, an introduction to protein crystallography, andPymolas a tool to view protein structures and prepare images. The second lecture will briefly introduce the thermodynamics of protein folding, then discusshydrophobicityas a quantifiable property of molecules, and finally introduce a simple but useful C-H-P paradigm for considering the impact of mutations on protein stability.
